Bring on the BABIES!

As you all know unless you don't read my blog frequently, I am in my OB rotation...and it has been a huge joy. I get to see little tiny bodies working to provide life...only God could have created something as complex and beautiful as this! This week on Thursday and Friday we have been on the unit in the afternoons. So far I have only gotten to work with postpartum moms and their babies (postpartum means a mom that has recently given birth). It has been an amazing experience. I'm sorta bummed that I haven't gotten to see a delivery yet or a c-section. I'm not going to lie, it is sort of awkward and hard for me to be one the unit for eight hours and not see another male (unless its the doctor). Its just a different setting but I still think it is fun. Probably sure the moms are surprised when they see me walk in the door and find out that I'm their student nurse for the day! However, they have been great. Yesterday was awesome. The baby was so cute and I got to hold him and everything. The baby didn't like it when I had to take his clothes off to weigh him and then the only way I could keep him quiet to count his respiration and heart rate was to hold him. And I got to give my first shot to the mom! I did so much better than I thought I was going to do.

Tuesday we had our 4th exam which was a disaster. I think that everyone did bad. the professors all ended up going over the test with each other because the scores where so bad and they ended up throwing out like 10 questions so that made things a lot better. Then we talked about mental health and grieving in pregnancy. We had to watch a video in class that was so sad. I had actually watched it earlier not in class and cried. I provided a link to it. It is a sad video but its a reality that people have to deal with. Just a warning I you have any kinda feelings for other people this will probably make you cry. All you need to do to watch the video is click on the title of this blog at the top "Bring on the Babies".
